Entertainment is slowly coming to life....

Although we are rich in talent and entertainment diversity, 2020 will go down in history as perhaps a relatively quiet entertainment year, for obvious reasons.  You can check below for some venues with limited performances or check out the WHAT'S HAPPENING PAGE for a thorough listing of current events.

Social distancing and safety practices are highly encouraged if you choose to partake in community entertainment.

We need to be creative, innovative, patient and safe - together!

WELCOME PJ ALBERT, NEW CAPITOL CIVIC CENTRE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR!

MANITOWOC - Starting a new job can be challenging, but how about starting a job in a closed theater with a $20,000 budget deficit?

That’s the reality for PJ Albert, who stepped on as the new executive director of the Capitol Civic Centre in early August. As the theater remains closed as a result of health concerns about the spread of the coronavirus, Albert is faced with helping to close a revenue gap that comes from canceled shows throughout most of 2020.

Most full-time employees of the Capitol, known as the “Jewel of the Lakeshore,” were reduced to part-time hours, and part-time workers were furloughed until the theater can start offering shows again.

Albert, who is using the down time to learn all he can about his new position, hopes the Capitol will open with limited-seating shows in October.

He said although the theater is hurting financially, it is not on life support and he’s optimistic the Capitol will thrive once the pandemic ends.

“All arts programs and productions are struggling now,” Albert said in a phone interview. “I had four other arts-related jobs I was also in the running for, and all four places called and told me they were closing the position due to financial issues.”

He most recently worked for the Orlando Shakespeare Theater, beginning in 2001 and holding the positions of production manager, guest services director, general manager and managing director, helping the organization grow from a seasonal to year-round producing organization.

That theater performed 10 productions per season, and Albert said that although he enjoyed the job, he was ready for something new and felt the Florida theater also was ready for new blood.

So he left that job about a year ago, taking off six months to relax.

Albert grew up in Chicago and said he wanted to bring his family back to the Midwest.

“I never really felt like Florida was my home,” he said. “I’m falling in love with Manitowoc. I can stand and stare at the lake whenever I want to. And the people here are so friendly.”
